Gilead7 has traveled from a rigid boom bap vocalist recording basement tapes to an eclectic, abstract hip-hop wordsmith, crafting refined gems for an audience of musical diversity. His upcoming album, "The Darkroom: The Abandonment of Christendom," is the cynical view of a Christian turned skeptic; the picture of a man of faith leaping head first into a sea filled with beliefs he would have once ran from.
He compares this bleak existence to a photographic darkroom, where his life "develops" into an anomaly while he experiences situations that were once foreign to him during his time of faith. He forces his ideas over standard hip-hop breaks to experimental and drum and bass instrumentals, backings well-suited to his excellent command of bleak, uncanny concepts.
Life in this "darkroom" is exemplified in tracks such as "Rules of Darkroom," Where Gilead makes it clear that he has turned his back on Christendom and dares anyone to disturb his flirtation with atheism and spiritual questioning. "Evil Laughter," a battle song, also echoes such contempt for Christian spiritual authority in its sacrilegious statements that Gilead uses to emphasize his hate for substandard MCs. "Art Institute" shows Gilead’s humanistic worldview, as he rhymes about art belonging to him and how he rules over it. Overall, "The Darkroom" is a developing photograph, each track being an essential piece that eventually ends with Gilead’s theme coming into clear focus.
